So there I was jogging down the road listening to the 4 Hour Chef on audiobook when I was stuck by an idea that stopped me in my tracks. Tim was describing how former number 1 ranked surfer, Brad Gerlach, taught him how to pop up on a surfboard from 9000 miles away via Skype.
I thought to myself, ‘wow that is great but we aren’t all celebrities like Tim Ferriss and able to call up number one ranked surfers and have them agree to teach us. How can the rest of us find experts willing to share their knowledge?’ This is where the idea for an online marketplace that connects students and teachers was born. I called it SkillsChat.com. Actually, that is not entirely true, there were many other names that were ahead on the list but all of them were taken so SkillsChat is what stuck.
